Ministry outsources maintenance
20 Nov 2019
Maintenance of section of the road between Tshweneyagae and Kgomokasitwa has been outsourced to a citizen contractor who is expected to complete the works on May 2020.
When responding to a question by Member of Parliament for Kanye North, Mr Thapelo Letsholo, Minister of Transport and Communications Mr Thulagano Segokgo said the contract commenced on November 5, adding that once tarred, the road would provide faster access to services and amenities, creation of jobs during the construction phase and reduced vehicle operating and maintenance costs.
Minister Segokgo also said the road would reduce the cost of travel by linking the villages to other existing roads.
He, however, said the 15 km section of the road was not included in the National Development Plan 10 adding that “there is currently no plan to upgrade the road to bitumen standard.”
Mr Letsholo had wanted an update on the status of Magotlhwane/ Kgomokasitwa /Tshweneyagae road and to state if it was included in the previous development plan for tarring, the current situation and the social and economic value the tarring of the road could bring to the livelihood of the people affected by it and those living in the said village.
