Storm hits Shashe Mooke

19 Nov 2019

A hailstorm swept through Shashemooke village in the northeast in the early hours of November 18 morning leaving a trail of damages and destruction in some residences, government and private institutions.

According to eyewitnesses including Kgosi David Adams, the hailstorm started with some strong winds, followed by showers.

Kgosi Adams said in an interview that electricity and telephone lines were also disrupted and appealed to government to speed up assistance for those affected. He, however, said despite the destruction, no death or injuries were recorded. No small stock died either.

According to the village social welfare officer, Mr Basimane Mothoagae, two households at Setambule ward were badly affected and needed immediate aid such as tents and food.

He said they had assessed a number of households, but the situation was not that bad in terms of shelter.

The owner of Lions Gardens and Bar, Mr Ernest Sakuringwa estimated the damages to be at around P150 000.

He said the business was not yet ensured as the project was not yet complete.

Village councillor, Mr Isaac Nyathi assured the residents of his support under such difficult circumstances. Ends
