Men Sector in collaboration with Botswana Defence Force, Department of Prisons, Botswana Police Services, Central Transport Organisation and Selebi Phikwe Town Council held a kgotla meeting recently at Botshabelo ward dubbed Pitso ya Borre, a buildup activity towards the International Men’s Day commemoration to be held November 19.
This year’s commemoration would he held under the theme; Positive Male Role Models.
Selebi Phikwe Prisons, clinical psychologist, Ms Khana Phuduhudu explained that fatherhood was an honour like no other.
“Men need to pride themselves with being good fathers,” she said.
She said despite the challenges men faced, they still needed to do everything possible to give their children better lives.
By giving children attention, she said, fathers would know their children better.
Ms Phuduhudu advised fathers to engage their children in household chores and groom them to be responsible and hardworking individuals.
She also encouraged fathers to have a relationship with their children as that would to deter them from getting advice elsewhere that might lead them astray.
“Let us love our children unconditionally and play our role as parents,” she urged.
For his part, Men Sector chairperson, Mr Philip Atlhopheng appreciated the attendance, saying he was optimistic that with the advice they received, they would change to be better men and fathers.
The meeting he said was intended to discuss issues and guide men into positive male role models as per the theme of this year‘s commemoration of International Men’s day.
He said Biblically, the man was the head of the family to protect and not to abuse.
“Leading a family entails taking good care of them by supporting them both financially, psychologically and physically,” he said. Mr Atlhopheng said men should have self-awareness, self-control and self-management. Ends
