ABM promotes entrepreneurship

17 Nov 2019

In keeping with the spirit of reorienting the education sector in Botswana to achieve a knowledge-based economy, ABM University College will run a campaign to commemorate its 30 years of existence

Speaking during a press conference in Gaborone recently, Director of the university college and former Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Mr Nonofo Molefhi said they were forging forward to create value added programmes and projects to broaden employment prospects for the youth.

Mr Molefhi said the programmes would be their priority strategies to respond to contemporary aspirations of the country, noting that they would be looking at creating beneficial partnerships that would improve prospects for graduates and ordinary youth.

Furthermore, Mr Molefhi revealed that ABM would undergo a rebranding exercise ,where they envisaged the Gaborone campus becoming a business leadership centre, to provide the right guidance for developing a crop of the best future leaders in business.

The Brand and Communications Manager, Ms Thato Mochipisi said the campaign, which started in Noveber 15, will be part of emphasis on giving students practical training in entrepreneurship to give them an edge after graduation.

She said the campaign would include a competition that would afford 12 lucky individuals the opportunity to acquire a qualification in entrepreneurship development, which is a focus area for ABM.

Ms Mochipisi expressed the institution’s belief that the competition would be the right step towards producing high performing business leaders; a belief which she said was possible with the support of the university’s business incubation centre at Gaphatshwa.

The competition, she said would be open to the public and would be predominantly driven through social media.

She further noted that ABM had partnered with other stakeholders such as the Association of African Universities, as part of its mandate to produce quality graduates. Ends
