Tsodilo hosts two-day softball tournament

Tsodilo Junior Secondary School in Maun will host a two- day softball development tournament in preparation for next year’s competitions, including Botswana Integrated Sports Association (BISA) competitions.
The tournament, scheduled for 16-17 November at Tsodilo school playgrounds, will attract eight junior secondary schools, including the host.
The schools to participate are Oodima, Shanganani, Moeti, Maitlamo, Shakawe, Popagano, Sedibelo and Tsodilo.
In an interview, the organiser of the tournament, Tsodilo’s Basiame Molathiwa revealed that the tournament was also aimed at bringing pupils together to develop their skills.
He stated that most schools were not doing well in softball and hoped the tournament would give coaches an opportunity to assess their teams’ performance and skills and see where they could improve.
The event, he said, would also help the host to raise funds to buy more equipment and kits for the school teams.
He said softball was one of the fastest growing sporting codes in the school, as most pupils had shown interest in taking part.
Molathiwa said Tsodilo had been doing well in softball as it had been crowned the champion in national tournaments for the past 10 years.
He said pupils wanted to be associated with the winning sporting code and that resulted in the formation of many teams with no equipment and kits.
He said the school recently participated in a tournament in Mochudi where they emerged champions and walked away with medals and kits.
BISA is an association which continues to lead in developing talent at school level.
The association hosts competitions in all sporting codes where coaches select a team that would represent the country at the Confederation of School Sport Associations of Southern Africa (COSSASA). ENDS
