Bishop urges church to donate selflessly
10 Nov 2019
Members of Revelation Blessed Peace Church, North Region, have been challenged to give without bragging about their contributions.
Speaking during a handing over of a house built for a church member, Ms Maria Mashabela, who lives with partial disability following a car accident years back, Bishop Opelo Modimowaitse said it was golden not to seek mileage by counting one’s contributions to the poor.
The bishop also preached against donating to the poor just so that the giver can gain control over the recipient who would have essentially lost their resistance power by mere acceptance of donations. He said giving should be a selfless act that seeks no quid pro quo.
Quoting a verse from second Corinthians chapter nine verse seven which reads, ‘Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver,’ Pastor Modimowaitse said members should rather allow members of the community who appreciate the church’s efforts to heap praises over it.
To buttress his teachings against bragging and seeking mileage about benevolence rendered for the less privileged , Pastor Modimowaitse further read from Proverbs 28 verse 27 that reads, ‘He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack; but he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse.’
Speaking at the same event, Ms Letso Mphela of Grade Parts Botswana praised the church for building a house and connecting water to the home of Ms Mashabela. Ms Mphela called on church members to sacrifice some of their wants in order to help those in dire need. She also challenged church members to be true ambassadors of Christianity. ends
