In their endeavour to uplift the lives of the disadvantaged communities, Mascom Wireless, through its Corporate Social Investment initiative, hosted a Christmas party for Lokgwabe Primary School reception class on November 9.
Speaking during the celebration, communications manager, Ms Tebogo Lebotse-Sebego said the event was part of their annual Christmas festivities whereby, they celebrate the festive season with children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
They donated school uniform, toiletries, clothes, toys, books worth P101 300 to pupils as they get ready for standard one next year.
She said the gesture would give the pupils an opportunity to celebrate early Christmas in a special way.
The Christmas party celebrations, she said, started in 1999 when they hosted parties for vulnerable children in different parts of the country.
She mentioned that different Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO’s) in about 19 villages in Morwa, Ghanzi, Kasane, D’Kar and other areas had benefited from the initiative.
Ms Lebotse-Sebego further said in 2017, the Universal Access & Service Fund (UASF) awarded Mascom a project to upgrade base station to enable 3G coverage.
The project, she said, also entailed provision of broadband connectivity to government schools in Kgalagadi region, which was a success.
She mentioned that it was in March when they handed over the site in Lokgwabe and they pledged to come back and host the annual Christmas party with the reception class.
Ms Lebotse-Sebego said the company had continued to take keen interest in the vulnerable and disadvantaged groups within different communities.
She said they also had Mascom housing project initiative, noting that they had built 38 houses since 2010 in such areas as Molepolole, Tsabong, Lecheng, Bobonong, Kuke and Gamodubu.
She said in due course, they would hand over five more houses in Otse, bringing the number to 45 so far.
Moreover, she said this year still at Lokgwabe Primary school they would erect an assembly shelter to safeguard pupils against the harsh climatic conditions.
Earlier welcoming guests, Lokgwabe Primary School head, Ms Mengu Mogotsi lauded Mascom for their noble gesture in extending a helping hand to some less fortunate families.
She said through their donations, the less fortunate would have something to smile about during the festive season, as well as look the part when they come for standard one next year.
In his closing remarks, Kgosi Clarkson Molatole of Lokgwabe applauded Mascom for their benevolence and wished they continue spreading their wings across the country to uplift people’s lives.
He said the noble gesture would promote the company’s business equitably across the length and breadth of the country. ENDS
