The Zambia deputy high commissioner Mr Goodwell Lungu has called on his fellow countrymen and women to reflect and introspect on the meaning of their freedom.
Mr Lungu said during Zambia’s 55th independence celebrations in Gaborone on November 9 that Zambia’s freedom enabled the citizens to interact with one another and exchange ideas freely but responsibly.
The deputy High Commissioner said the freedom was born out of the determination by forefathers to restore dignity as a people.
Furthermore, he revealed that steady progress had been made in creating opportunities for people to improve their livelihoods.
He went on to say that Zambia was a beacon of peace on the continent with rich and diverse cultural heritage, adding that they must promote their unique national identity and image that made Zambia stand out.
“Our independence anniversary is not only a celebration but also a reminder of our responsibility to manage our affairs”, he said.
He said there was a need to make deliberate efforts in working together.
He implored them to develop and nurture creativity, innovation and critical thinking.
The Zambian business community in Botswana was also commended for their role in promoting and strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations. Ends
