07 Nov 2019

Members of the 2019 World AIDS Day commemoration preparatory committee have been urged to race against time and ensure that they hold a commendable event.

Kgosi Babinang Majatsie of Maun advised members during a preparatory meeting recently  to do more given the magnitude of the event.

Maun is hosting this year’s commemoration themed “Communities make a difference” slated for Maun Sports Complex on December 1.

Kgosi Majatsie warned that time was not on their side hence they should up their pace.

Members were urged to attend meetings without fail, give reports on their assignments and also to be time conscious.

He urged every member to be hands on for the success of the event.

A National AIDS and Health Promotion Agency (NAHPA), official Ms Sarah Ranko said they were expecting close to 300 dignitaries including development partners in the fight against HIV.

She revealed that the event had attracted a lot of attention as people were interested in Maun as a tourism destination.

Ms Ranko appealed to local committee members to be hands on as the custodian of the event adding they wanted an error-free event.

She also explained the relevance of the theme noting it sought to find ways on how communities responded to the HIV epidemic.

Ms Ranko said communities were better placed concerning the situation in the North West District regarding the spread of HIV stressing that their efforts were essential to the fight against HIV/AIDS.

Mr Gosalamang Xaa from Botswana Network of People Living With HIV/AIDS (BONEPWA) said on the eve of WAD, the committee would hold a candle light memorial event to raise awareness around HIV, stand together with people living with HIV and remember the lives lost to HIV and AIDS.

The event will be held at the Batawana main kgotla around 5p.m.Ends
