Lekidi hosts Gaborone women derby
07 Nov 2019
Lekidi Football Centre is set to host Gaborone region women’s derby on November 10.
The city bragging rights will be at stake when two Gaborone football giants, Township Rollers and Gaborone United meet in the women’s league encounter scheduled to start at 9am.
The game is expected to attract a lot of spectators to see if Gaborone United will continue with their winning streak or it will be Township Rollers who will earn the three valuable points.
Outside the field, the two teams have a lot in common. They both have committed players who know what it takes to win the game, complete and nice playing kit and they are always organised.
Currently, Gaborone United are at the summit of the log with 10 points, from four outings after winning three games and drew one.
Popa are in position five with six points, having played four games, out of which they won two and lost two. It now remains to be seen if the Gaborone West based Rollers will be the first team to humble the Money Machine.
With both coaches being mindful of the fact that bragging rights will be at stake on Sunday, they can only be fully prepared for the encounter and work hard to win points.
GU coach, Paul Mizi said his team was fully prepared to face Township Rollers.
“The team is ready even though we have two injuries. However, that will not deter us from completing our mission against Rollers on Sunday,” he said.
He said as log leaders, they would not allow Township Rollers to break their unbeaten record this season.
Rollers coach, Kago Kangangwani on the other hand said they had long itched to meet the Money Machine because it was one of the teams they understood better.
He said his team was in a good shape, adding that they were supposed to have a midweek fixture, which was then cancelled, ‘and this played to our advantage as our players had ample time to recover’.
“In a nutshell, we are ready. We also understand GU. The last time we met, we managed to win against them,” he said.
In other games to be played on Saturday, Wonder Girls will face Prisons at Lekidi in the morning, UB Kicks and FC Legends will play at the University of Botswana (UB) Stadium, while Security Systems and Double Action meet at Lekidi. Untouchable and FC Ambassadors will use another Lekidi football pitch.
On Sunday, Wonder Girls will take on UB Kicks at UB, Vicomates will battle it out with Geronah while Prisons will take on Big Sisters at Lekidi. ENDS
