Former Peace corp builds basket court for Moses Mengwe

Former Peace Corp volunteer, Chad Anderson from the United States of America, who was based in Maitengwe, has built a basketball court for Moses Mengwe Junior School.
Speaking at the handing over of the court, United States Ambassador to Botswana, Craig Cloud commended Mr Anderson for the determination and dedication he had shown during his volunteer service to the village.
Cloud appealed to the community and pupils to fully utilise the facility, noting that sports across the world had changed the lives of many people, not only athletes.
He said sports helped develop personal skills, instill discipline, promote team work and cultivate the competitive spirit.
Cloud further noted that such principles were useful even in the future when playing time is over.’
He thus urged the young players to have confidence in anything they do because having zeal could help in determining one’s future plans and achievements.
The US Ambassador said such would enable them to achieve their goals, for they would encourage one another in times of need.
Giving an overview of the project, Anderson said during his stay, which ended back in 2014, he was inspired by the young people in the area to start something that would keep them busy and away from embarking on social ills.
He said in order to achieve his mission he requested assistance from rotary clubs in many countries, including his native country and Botswana.
Anderson said despite having completed his services back in 2014, he had constantly remained attached to his host country and Maitengwe.
Meanwhile, Kgosi Shadrack Mphala-Mengwe of Maitengwe appreciated Anderson for having committed himself to help them even after he had left the country.
He said they were confident that their school would in the near future produce professional basketball players capable of playing in superior leagues such as the National Basketball Association in his country America. ENDS
