Karatekas will descend on BUAN University multipurpose hall tomorrow for the annual International Kids On a Mission (KOM) open championships.
The ninth karate championship would bring together crème de la creme of karate. According to one of the organisers, Sensei Kabelo Molefe, the tournament focused on development of young karatekas.
All eyes will be on the male Kumite under 67kg where the likes of Lemogang Keolopile, Thebe Duna and Larona Tshukudu would go for the jugular.
An interesting duel is expected in the male U75kg that would include Dan Botlhomile, Tumisang Keorapetse and the in-form Tlotlang Ponatshego.
Though much competition was not expected in the female cadre, the likes of national team kata sensation Centy Kgosikoma and Oratile Nkhumisang in the +50kg division was likely to give spectators value for the money.
He said since it’s an open championship all karate styles were catered for and the organisers were expecting youthful participation.
The categories up for grabs include the under eight, ten, twelve, fourteen, cadets, juniors, seniors and karatekas over 40years.
“Karatekas are encouraged to register as early as possible before the closing date so that the draw can be done while it is still time and the registration is done online on sport data.
So far 10 clubs have confirmed their attendance,” said sensei Molefhe Sensei Molefe said the tournament was open for all Karatekas around Botswana while registration fee differed according to what the athlete would take part in.
The Kom karate championships tournament started in 2011 and next year they will host their best ever tournament in celebration of their 10th anniversary. ENDS
