Road crash claims nine lives

Nine people have died in a car accident along Rakops-Maun road on October 27.
Officer Commanding, Senior Superintendent Sarah Gabathusi said a combi carrying 12 passengers overturned 40 kilometres away from Rakops.
Snr Supt Gabathusi said two other passengers and a driver got serious injuries and were under observation.
Of the nine who died, seven are females and two males. Those injured are all males.
Snr Supt Gabathusi said relatives of the deceased have been informed and investigations continue.
The 12 were travelling from Serowe to Maun to attend lobola negotiations.
In another incident, a 13-year-old girl of Buuhe Ward at Letlhakane is reported to have been defiled by a 22-year-old man of the same ward.
According to Snr Supt Gabathusi, the victim was sent on an errand with others but failed to return home with the others.
Snr Supt Gabathusi said the victim’s mother went out to search for her and on being found, the girl narrated her ordeal.
The suspect is in police custody while investigations continue.
Snr Supt Gabathusi expressed concern about increasing cases of defilement and the fact that some parents failed to report them.
She said teenage pregnancy in schools was worrying and appealed for parents’ assistance.
With education, Snr Supt Gabathusi said, more were now aware that defilement was an offence.ENDS
