Kenewendo launches Sidilega hospital

20 Oct 2019

Sidilega Private Hospital has been officially launched.

The P150 million investment facility, which was funded by government through Botswana Development Corporation (BDC), was launched by the Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Ms Bogolo Kenewendo, in Gaborone on October 17.

Minister Kenewendo said the hospital would enhance the country’s economic standing by allowing Botswana to compete in the international healthcare market.

She said the project was a demonstration of government’s commitment to enhancing access to world-class health care services and also an effort to improve health sector growth by allowing the private sector to take more space in the economy.

She expressed government’s position that the hospital would bring health tourism to the country and reduce the number of patient referrals to other countries, which she said was very costly and created a lot of government spend on healthcare services.

Ms Kenewendo further noted that the facility had potential to stimulate domestic spending from regional and international clients.

According to the director of the hospital, Mr Ye Xiaoyang,  it would open to the public soon.

He said the facility would be a stepping stone to forthcoming services that would be offered in the hospital, noting that once at full capacity; the hospital would offer various specialisations.

Mr Xiaoyang said the hospital had already been staffed with requisite personnel and that operational processes were already underway.

The chief executive officer, Mr Suresh Menon, said at full capacity, the facility would offer primary, secondary and tertiary health care services.

He said the hospital would offer specialised surgery and neurosurgery services, including hip replacement and other therapeutic care services with a strong focus on preventative care.
