The Assistant Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Mr Karabo Gare, has commended the Department of Buildings and Engineering Services (DBES) in Jwaneng for rekindling lives of the less privileged.

He said this during handover of a two-bedroomed house and three toilets, which DBES built at the tune of P150 000 in Pitseng.

The house and a toilet were presented to Ms Ontifile Morewapelo while the other two toilets were donated to Ms Ontlametse Samasima and Ms Keromamang Marumoatsile.

DBES staff identified the beneficiaries during a previous visit to the village and they raised funds towards the project.

Mr Gare commended DBES for the sterling job in uplifting the lives of others, adding that, this was a testament that they had ambition because it took more courage to ask for donations in order to help others.

“Government alone cannot manage to uplift the lives of all. Therefore businesses, parastatals and stakeholders’ support is key towards the enhancement of the lives of fellow citizens.”

Mr Gare appreciated the employees for having nurtured a culture of giving, which was enshrined in the history of Batswana.

He, therefore, saluted the team for successfully completing the project, amid the challenges that they faced, and commended them for their selfness.

“They sacrificed their time, energy and money to come up with such a great gift,” he said.

Futhermore, Mr Gare shared that government cared about its citizens as indicated by money spent in building schools, clinics and provision of youth grants and other programmes.

DBES deputy director, Mr Keitsile Kutoro said while the department had portfolio responsibility for government building development project, they saw it fit to change someone’s life through provision of a shelter.

“Our job is to build and ensure proper maintenance of buildings, we therefore understand the importance of shelter as a basic human, which every human being must have, hence the urge to lend a helping someone else towards ensuring they lead a dignified life,” he said.

Mr Kutoro explained that his team came up with this initiative in 2014, adding that, they had five been working on the project for several years.

“Our project faced challenges, despite that we have been able to overcome them and and the project’s handing over is a testimony,” he said. ENDS
