It was for this reason that organisations such as Journey of Hope Botswana embarked on a nationwide awareness and advocacy campaign on breast cancer.

In their continued efforts to raise awareness and participation, Journey of Hope launched another campaign on October 10 dubbed Mo Diatleng tsa Gago.

“Mo Diatleng tsa Gago campaign seeks to sensitise people that breast cancer does not discriminate and that it is an individual’s responsibility to do the right thing and have regular checks.

Coordinator of Journey of Hope Botswana, Ms Onica Lekuntwane, stated that they had shot an awareness advertisement with survivors, fighters and warriors of breast cancer exposing their scars and breasts.

Ms Lekuntwane indicated that the advertisement sensitize people not to be ashamed nor be judged as the fighters, warriors and survivors bare their bodies in the advertisement.

She encouraged women and men alike to always check their breasts to avoid late detection.

In partnership with Diacore Marathon, Journey of Hope Botswana hoped to continue improving good health among Batswana.

Director of Diacore Marathon, Mr Kfir Teichman, indicated that they sought to promote health as well as donate proceeds from the marathon to charity.

It was in this regard that Mr Teichman noted that they donated P300 000 of the proceeds from the 2019 Diacore Marathon to Journey of Hope.

Ms Kenalemang Mantswemabe, who was diagnosed in 2017 emphasised the importance of regular checks.

She commended Journey of Hope Botswana for their efforts in the fight against cancer, adding that many lives have been saved through interaction with the organisation.

Ms Mantswemabe indicated that she was among the lucky ones who was saved by Journey of Hope Botswana and received assistance to get examined and subsequently performed mastectomy and underwent chemotherapy treatment.
