Botswana 400m runner, Galefele Moroko will at 8:10pm compete in the semi finals at the ongoing IAAF World Championships held in Doha.
Moroko booked herself a place in the 400m semi finals after winning heat four on Monday with a Personal Best time of 50.59.
She will share the track on heat three with among other athletes, Kendall Ellis and Shakima Wimbley of USA, Justyna SwiÄ™ty-Ersetic of Poland, Jamaica’s Stephenie Ann McPherson, Nigeria’s Favour Ofili and Mary Moraa.
Track and field analyst, Lentswe Charles said Galefele had matured with time adding that she was capable of making it to the finals.
He said during the heat, Moroko started from lane two strong in the first 40m and relaxed on the second half of the first bend running behind with a good pace.
He said Moroko distributed her energy wisely on the back straight running with a sub maximal pace and a wonderful stride with opponents going fast.
He said as the athlete entered the second bend, she positioned herself well on time keeping and closing the gap with a reserve tank of energy still full and emerged from the 300m mark with a few opponents in front and blew past them quickly.
“It was Stephanie McPherson of Jamaica who went with a great acceleration on the homestretch and at 350m, Moroko ran aggressively and fast past her, showing her mental toughness and opening a five metres gap leading all quatermilers on the homestretch,” he said.
Another athlete, Christine Botlogetswe, who had been struggling with an injury, finished on position six with a time of 53.27. Ends
