Gare commends Botswana Housing Corporation

Assistant Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Mr Karabo Gare has commended Botswana Housing Corporation (BHC) for their contribution in grooming the learners.

Mr Gare said this while making a keynote address at the hand over of a library at Tswaane Primary School, which BHC  renovated at the tune of P85 000.

“This noble gesture will go a long way towards creating a future for our children and we are hoping that they will prosper more. We believe it will in the long run make an impact and provide comfort in their learning experience,” he said.

“If utilized well, it will serve well the generations to come in terms of the returns in investment,” he added.

He said he was pleased with the donation and also the journey that BHC had taken with the school, as the current results reflected a significant achievement as a result of the previous contribution from BHC.

“Libraries stores the energy that fuels imagination. They open up windows to the world and inspires us to explore and achieve and contribute to the improvement of our quality of life,” he said.

He therefore noted that the library would help, energise re-captivate the learners interest towards education and inspire them to greater heights.

“To build up a library is to create life. It is never just a collection of books. This gesture put the students at par with those in towns,” he said.

He said, he believed that through the library they were building new thoughts and mindset, which would create a bright future for the learners at Tshwaane.

Mr Gare shared that this was in line with moving Botswana forward to reaching to globally competitive levels in a knowledge based economy.

He indicated that schools were the creators of knowledge and therefore any developments that were intended to improve the education system could drive Botswana towards achieving the much needed knowledge based economy.

In his remarks, The Chief Executive Officer, Mr Reginald Motswaiso, said BHC believed in quality education hence the worthy cause of contributing to the education enhancement and learner’s experience.

“It is also our responsibility to assist government in shaping the learners and assist to provide amenities possible to enrich their lives and prepare them for the future,” he said.

Mr Motswaiso noted that, the mandate of BHC was to provide housing and shelter to Batswana in general.He noted that, in executing the mandate, they also recognised that the government needed assistance in addressing some societal challenges and shortcomings.  

“We are aware that our intervention could never be this timely, especially when pupils are preparing for their end of the year examinations and thus require equipment such as proper library furniture to aid them in revision for these important examinations,” he said.

He noted that the corporation had decided to donate to Tshwaane Primary School, not because the school was more deserving than others elsewhere, but because the needs assessment conducted was more compelling.

“Ours is a demonstration of our caring spirit as a good corporate citizen inspired by hope and the need to make a meaningful impact in the daily lives of the pupils here at the school,” he said.

He said, their relationship with the school dated back to a few years. Ends
