Makhubu celebrates 30th Anniversary

24 Sep 2019

Makhubu Junior Secondary School in Selebi Phikwe recently celebrated 30 years of academic excellence.

Speaking at the occasion, operational readiness manager for Lucara Botswana, Mr Leonard Marumo said he was extremely delighted to be invited to grace the 30 years of excellence as opposed to the 30 years of existence.

He said he was in agreement with the notion of a knowledge-based economy, adding that it was no doubt that Makhubu was living up to that notion.

“The school has produced good students since 2002, and it has always been in the top 10 nationally in the JC examinations,” he said.

Mr Marumo attributed the good performance to the unity between all stakeholders, adding, ‘where excellence is celebrated, Lucara is proud to be involved’.

He also encouraged the school to aim for better positions and pledged a sum of P5 000 on behalf of Lucara Botswana.

For her part, Makhubu JSS school head, Ms Sealogane Modipe-Osentse said the celebration marked years of history as she continues the legacy of the school.

“Makhubu is not just a school, it is a school with a difference, a school of pride, integrity and a school whereby you are challenged everyday when you lead,” she said.

She said she was honoured to lead the school, adding that, the late Mr Edwin Keatimile, who was the school head from 2002 to 2007, was her mentor and she had learnt a lot from him.

She said Makhubu had made a lot of history in Botswana by producing quality products, that were sustainable in the market and have withstood the test of time.

Ms Modipe-Osentse commended parents for their support and involvement in their children’s education, adding that the school throve on team work as the good results were not only attributed to teachers, but to all stakeholders.

She said parents supplied food and serving utensils for Home Economics practicals as well as watering cans, since the school was experiencing a shortage of such for Agriculture projects.

Finally she commended Nfanyana Architects and Interior Designs for donating the plan for the school’s wall of fame, Makoro Bricks and Tiles who donated 6 000 bricks to erect the wall and parents who donated food for the 30th anniversary celebrations.

She also extended her gratitude towards church leaders and pastors for their continued support and prayers. Ends
