23 Sep 2019
Gaborone City councillors have showered the Mayor, Mr Kagiso Thutlwe with praises for doing a sterling job during his tenure in the last five years.
Making his comments on the mayor’s speech in Gaborone on September 23, nominated councillor, Mr Kagiso Ntime said the GCC had a good crop of councillors, who were cooperative and also committed to perform their duties.
He commended the mayor for his maturity in performing his duties as the political head of the council.
Mr Ntime said what also impressed him was that councillors fought tooth and nail to combat corruption, which made GCC the best council in the country.
He said the council did not do well on implementation and urged council staff to up their game for the benefit of the communities they served.
Councillor for Notwane ward, Mr Marks Bobi said the mayor and his deputy were cooperative and worked harmoniously.
He said he had been in the council before and it was not a common thing for the mayor and deputy to share an office, something he said prevailed in the last five years.
On other issues, the GCC councillors adopted a motion calling on the government to introduce free DNA testing for everyone.
Councillor Obusitswe Montwedi of Morula ward had tabled a motion requesting Ministry of Health and Wellness to provide free DNA testing as it was too expensive for most members of the society.
Another motion adopted was from Councillor Sergeant Kgosietsile of Marulamantsi ward, calling on the government to ratify the convention on political party funding. Ends
