The patron for football social clubs in Maun Mr Reaboka Mbulawa has commended the clubs for not only concentrating on their members, but having extended a helping hand to the community.
He said this at Maun on Sunday when the four clubs Easyway, Mathaithai, 11 men and Moremogolo donated food hampers worth over P3 000 to eight families at Moeti ward.
The clubs noble gesture came in handy as families go all out to prepare for independence celebrations.
He encouraged them to keep the good spirit of giving as such noble a gesture would earn them blessing, and that the donation would make a huge impact in the lives of the beneficiaries.
Mr Mbulawa donated P10 000 towards the official opening of Moeti kgotla office after some Village Development Committee (VDC) members decried lack of funds to officially open their newly constructed office.
The clubs also assured the VDC support during the preparations for the opening of the office.
In an interview Moremogolo member, Mr Frisco Gabokakangwe explained that the donation was part of their social corporate responsibility.
He said they wanted to prove to the communities that social clubs were not only meant for fun, but they also carried out charity activities to demonstrate care, love and compassion to the needy society members.
Mr Gabokakangwe revealed that individual social clubs do donate at their own time, but this time they found it fit to join hands and ensure they have something to eat during independence celebrations.
Social clubs, he said, were part of the society, hence the need to give back to the community, adding that it was not their first time to donate.
He cited that his club donated some gifts to 20 needy persons at Disana ward and to the elderly at Kuke in the Ghanzi district.
Asked about supporting the government initiative of ‘Adopt - a - School’ he said it was their intention to follow that route, but stated that social clubs were non-profit organisations and as such individual members contribute from their pocket towards charity activities.
Former Maun West MP, Mr Tawana Moremi also praised the clubs for demonstrating love towards the needy society members and encouraged them to continue. Ends
