Wellness committees workplace necessity

Maun Administration Authority district officer, Mr Sedikwa Motshipi has commended Maun Land Tribunal staff for their commitment to wellness through their annual wellness day.
Mr Motshipi made the remarks when opening the Land Tribunal wellness day activities in Maun on September 20.
He said government recognised the importance of wellness committees in the workplace, hence the Ministry of Health had incorporated the wellness aspect into its calender.
Mr Motshipi therefore urged Land Tribunal staff to live a healthy lifestyle by engaging in daily physical activities and a good diet to curb lifestyle diseases.
He said the Land Tribunal office, which was opened in Maun in 2016, had contributed positively to Maun Community.
Mr Motshipi noted the office has so far carried out clean-up campaigns, donated fruits to patients at Letsholathebe Hospital and donated sanitary pads to some students.
In his remarks, Land Tribunal president, Mr Tebogo Masala encouraged the staff to engage in fitness activities in order to be a productive workforce.
He said a healthy team would result in reduced number of unwell staff and less days of absence from work.
A Botswana Defense Force Aerobics Instructor, Corporal Larona Thebe said engaging in fitness activities helped individuals to network with fellow fitness fanatics.
Corporal Thebe said fitness also contributed to a healthy workforce and reduction of non-communicable diseases, which curb medical bills for the country.
Further, Corporal Thebe urged the officers to take advantage of the numerous private gyms available in Maun as well as a free gym operating at Maun Sports Complex. Ends
