Ministry staff donate to Moneedi Primary School

16 Sep 2019

Employees of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Housing Development have  donated 261 pencils, sanitary pads and cash amounting P623 to

Moineedi Primary School.

Handing over the donations, Minister of Infrastructure and Housing Development, Mr Vincent Seretse said employees under his ministry had felt the need to support less privileged members of the society, saying caring for each other must be the responsibility of all.

Mr Seretse said the decision to donate to the school followed a  recent retreat in Mahalapye, where the employees found it fit to leave behind a legacy by donating to the less privileged.

He said it was unfortunate that young girls from impoverished families were forced to abscond from school during their menstruation periods due to lack of sanitary pads.

He said it was ideal for the school to have sanitary pads to assist the girlchild when the need arises.  Mr Seretse said lack of sanitary pads also compromised the health of a girl child as in some instances, some opted to use materials that were not hygienic and therefore risking infections.

Receiving the donations, School Head, Ms Oaitse Keletso stated that a pencil was the most valuable present to a primary school learner.

“Over the years, we have been receiving varied gifts from people and companies, but we hardly receive pencils.  We are in dire need of pencils. It is the most instrumental tool in primary education,” Ms Keletso said. She said such a benevolent gesture would encourage the pupils to perform well.

She said at a young age, children were not good at taking care of their educational valuables as they constantly lose them.

“We appreciate your donation, it is through the love and guidance of God that you were able to locate our school,” she said.

Ms Keletso applauded the ministry’s employees for the donation, adding that it was not easy for philanthropists or companies to donate to remote areas like Taupye.

She however added that despite being located in the outskirts of Mahalapye, Moineedi Primary School was a high performer and had been producing excellent results over the years. ENDS
