CEO hails women in law enforcement
16 Sep 2019
Law enforcement women need to work tirelessly to empower themselves so that they are able to perform equally with their male counterparts.
This was said by Botswana Energy Regulatory Authority chief executive officer, Ms Rose Seretse during a motivational talk hosted for women.
Ms Seretse said women needed to have balanced opportunities of leadership in the workplace and the business sector in order to have a gender balanced wealth.
“We should see women in the police service carrying out duties believed to be of their male counterparts,” she said.
Ms Seretse said the police hierarchy had many positions, which could be occupied by anyone regardless of their gender hence the need to carry out their duties with confidence.
Again, she advised women to help other women in poverty and be proud of their own efforts and not expect favours from anyone. She also said life was ruthless therefore it needed full determination.
Ms Seretse said women needed not to compete against each other adding that backstabbing one another would not be beneficial but would instead earn them ridicule from their male counterparts.
She also advised them to start their own businesses.
A gender activist and police officer, Ms Onkemetse Kwelagobe urged women to be determined and know that they would face challenges in life.
She advised them not to look down on themselves and make a change in their lives and the society in general.
She asked them to grab opportunities and mute the negativity, because there would always be someone willing to offer help.
In an interview, women who attended the event said they were encouraged to start businesses and become agents of change for the society.
They said such motivation was needed in life and also encouraged other women to stand up and support each other.
Ms Kwelagobe said one mistake made by one woman affected all women therefore it was necessary for them to always protect each other.
The women in law enforcement also donated groceries to the needy. The theme of the event was Balancing for Better. ENDS
