Ramodimoosi commends BPC for donation

15 Sep 2019

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration says Botswana Power Corporation (BPC)’s efforts would go a long way in augmenting government’s efforts to uplift the lives of Batswana and give them a dignified life.

Mr Thuso Ramodimoosi said this at the handing over of a two bed-roomed house that BPC employees built for Ms Vivian Yane of Mafhikana ward in Kanye on September 13.

Mr Ramodimoosi thus commended BPC employees for their gesture which he said contributed to Vision 2036 aspirations.

He noted that Batswana continued to heed government’s call by contributing to the Presidential Housing Appeal, thereby assisting in realising the national vision.

Also, he appreciated that BPC employees managed to complete the project despite the challenges they were faced with.

He further noted that the project would encourage other organisations to do the same in their communities.

Nonetheless, he underscored the need to translate plans into tangible projects so that collective efforts would make a difference in people’s lives.

Further, he also commended other organisations and members of the community for volunteering in various stages of the project.

BPC acting chief executive officer, Mr Cross Kgosidiile said the corporation did not only exist for business but also had a responsibility to help people in the communities within which they operated.

Mr Kgosidiile said they had already delivered similar projects in Palapye, Nata and they were intending to do more in future.

He challenged other organisations to emulate such initiatives to make an impact in society.

However, he applauded the Office of the President for initiating the Presidential Housing Appeal, which he said encouraged people to give back to the community.

On the other hand, he urged the beneficiary to take care of the house to ensure longevity so that it also benefited her family.

On the overview, project coordinator, Mr Duncan Phoga said they started in July last year through individual contributions and various fundraising activities, as well as donations from the business community.

He applauded BPC employees for their commitment and for persevering amidst challenges emanating from restructuring.

He said even though they encountered some delays, their dedication pushed them to complete the project.

Receiving the house, Ms Yane said she was elated that she finally had decent housing after moving around asking for accommodation from other people. ENDS
