Ghanzi hospital experiences shortage of disposable nappies

12 Sep 2019

Ghanzi Primary Hospital superintendent, Dr Biyangidiki Finini, has told the township’s council session that his health facility is experiencing dire shortage of disposable nappies.

He was responding to Councillor Bashi Thiite of Ghanzi Township East ward who raised a concern over shortage of nappies at the hospital.

Dr Finini acknowledged that the challenge had been persistent for almost six months due to lack of funds.

He said the situation was aggravated by shortage of right sizes.

Dr Finini explained that the procurement of nappies was done at the Ministry of Health and Wellness and he said they only managed to procure large size saying that other sizes were unavailable.

He stated that the challenge did not only affect their bedridden patients at the hospital but also the 85 home based patients.

Regarding a concern that patients were sent from pillar to post when drugs were unavailable in a health facility, he explained that prior to referring a client to another facility, the health worker was expected to have confirmed the availability of such required drug.

Equally, an alternative drug could be prescribed. He attributed drug unavailability in health facilities in his region, which stands at an average 77 per cent against 97 per cent national target to drug absence among the suppliers.  ENDS
