Councillors commend council secretary

04 Sep 2019

Kweneng District Council secretary Mr Goleba Kgari has received accolades from councillors for his contribution in driving the district development processes with diligence and integrity.

Councillors showered Mr Kgari with praises in their comments on the council chairman, Mr Jeffery Sibisibi’s opening remarks during the final session of the full council meeting recently.

Cllr Palelo Motaosane of Thamaga North said Mr Kgari worked tirelessly to ensure that projects were undertaken in the district.

“I am delighted by the fact that the council secretary always availed himself when needed in our respective wards to have firsthand information about projects status than to rely on updates provided by others,” Cllr Motaosane said.

He therefore challenged others to emulate Mr Kgari’s kind of leadership, encouraging them to always ensure that reports they received on various projects tallied with what was on the ground.

On other issues, Cllr Motaosane challenged his colleagues to restore the full council reputation arguing that it had since waned as a result of constantly discussing insignificant issues instead of focusing on important issues as well as developmental issues in the district.

“We need to act maturely in our deliberations as honourable councillors by making significant contributions and address pertinent issues during full council sessions,” he said.

Nonetheless, he was happy about the Gabane infrastructure development project, which he said would finally be undertaken after some delays.

Councillors Duncan Ramasiagopana and Mookami Mantimane also indicated that the current sitting of the council was outstanding under proactive leadership, hence the need to maintain the status quo in the next session by reducing unnecessary complaints and make some goals achievable.

On the other hand, Cllr Ramasigopana emphasised the need to establish a task force that would investigate irregularities at Mahupu Junior Secondary School in the Letlhakeng district, where teachers were supposedly teaching across all levels, something he argued resulted in the school’s poor academic results.

Earlier, Salajwe councillor, Mr Lopang Sebutlenyane’s had pleaded with the council to address the situation at the school, arguing ‘there is no how academic performance can improve when teachers are constrained with workload, teaching both lower and upper classes.’

Again, he indicated that students continually used cold water at their hostels, something he argued made the school environment unconducive, and thus implored those responsible to be hasty in addressing the situation.

Lentsweletau West’s Cllr Botokanyane Motoroko pleaded with the district commissioner’s office to influence decision in standadising land acquisition processes in cases where individuals across the district were compensated with plots to release their fields for village expansion.

The problem, he said would persist if special dispensation was only be given to Mogoditshane area.
Mogoditshane East Cllr Pitso Sekao expressed gratitude over the release of P7.2 million towards refurbishment of Mogodisthane clinic, which he argued was dilapidated and had remained a thorny issue for a long period.

Meanwhile, Ntlolengwae’s Cllr Solomon Ramalejane implored the animal production department to update the council on the alleged livestock mortality reported to have hit some parts of Kweneng district, especially around areas of Boatlaname, Lephepe and Sojwe.

“It is important for the council to be knowledgeable on the situation and bring statistics on how the problem has affected the district as well as interventions in place by the department to address it,” he said. ENDS
