Church should assume rightful position in Botswana

03 Sep 2019

Nazareth Church of Botswana has been challenged to assume its rightful position and play its role in ensuring a peaceful Botswana.

Speaking at an official opening of the church, Bobonong branch, August 31, Botswana Democratic Party prospective parliamentary candidate for Bobonong, Mr Francisco Kgoboko urged the church to preach true gospel because in God everything was possible.

Mr Kgoboko said that the church could not assume its rightful position in the running of the country if members chose to hibernate.

The aspiring MP candidate said that churches were critical in moulding a morally sound nation, hence the country needed churches more than it did bars and prisons.

Mr Kgoboko also challenged young people to assume their roles and lead the church, but he warned them to always respect the elders and seek their sage at all costs.

He found that many young people had achieved a lot in their lives to an extent of disregarding God and their parents, but he warned that God loathed pride.

Registered in 1974 in Botswana, Nazareth Church of Botswana boasts 50 branches countrywide and four more in South Africa. Actually, the church originates from South Africa and was known as Twelve Apostolic New Nazareth under archbishop Nyathi.

It then came to Botswana in 1950.

According to the church secretary general, Ms Masego Tahla only 20 branches of the church have plots and as such appealed to the powers that be to allocate her church’s remaining branches some plots for worship.

Ms Tahla said that her church has made an undertaking to assist people living with disabilities and donates food hampers every Good Easter holidays.

The church also built houses for some destitute members. ends
