Netball league league resumes September 14

22 Aug 2013

The second round of the netball league will resume on September 14.

The first round of My Spar My Botswana Southern Zone netball league, which began on June 15 ended on August 17 with BDF Cats, Notwane and UB Crystals finishing in the top three on 18, 16 14 points respectively. At the bottom of the log were PUBS who had not bagged any point from their games.

According to the southern zone public relations officer, Debrah Dintletse, the first round of the league went well.  “Our first round started and ended well because the teams as well as officials arrived on time for the games,” Dintletse said. However, she said they encountered some challenges where some teams did not honour fixtures.

In such cases, she said the league committee took the necessary measures, in accordance with the Botswana Netball Association rules and regulations and some teams were awarded soft points. About 20 netball teams, from both the southern and the northern region, are competing in the league, an improvement by six teams compared to last year.

The league was sponsored at a tune of P400 000 by Spar Supermarket. All participating teams were awarded a P3 000 grant to ensure that all had equal footing in preparing for the league. Ends
