Botswana senior women national team experiencing accommodation challenges

Botswana Senior women national team, Head of Delegation, Monnakgotla Mojaki has raised concern that the team’s health and performance might be compromised if the hotel where they are lodging goes ahead with its plans to paint rooms which are closer to the teams rooms.

The team is in Johannesburg, South Africa and is scheduled to play Banyana Banyana in the second leg of Olympic qualifier game,Tuesday.

Mojaki expressed his reservations in an interview, explaining that some of the players might be affected by the paint which will inturn affect the players’ performance in their crucial encounter against Banyana Banyana.

He said he raised the matter with the hotel management and was still waiting to hear if they had acceded to his request to suspend the renovations until the players check out.

Mojaki said in the meantime he was looking for alternative accommodation for the team.

“Look we have an important game, therefore we cannot leave anything to chance, and I simply told them it is not possible for them to paint the rooms given that they are adjacent to the players, so I am still waiting for them, but at the same time I am looking for suitable accommodation” he said.

Team Doctor Gosiame Siwawa said freshly painted room could affect the respiratory system.

He said the paint could aggravate some illness related to the respiratory system particularly reactive airway diseases.

“Once you come in contact with paint, you will start having shortness of breath, and that on its own will affect players, obviously you can’t run around, due to shortness of breath, so I don’t think it’s wise for the hotel to paint some of the rooms now,” he said.

The game will be played at Orlando Stadium at 7 pm.
