The Vice President, Mr Slumber Tsogwane, says the sets of computers and modem donated to Kedia community will empower them to be at par with the international community.
Mr Tsogwane said this at the Botswana Books Project donation of computers, internet modem,800 books and solar study lamps to Kedia Primary School students and the tribal office on August 30.
He said the donation would make a significant impact in transforming the economic status of the community members and would enable them to have access to internet and gather information adding that they would no longer be compelled to travel to Letlhakane to access internet services.
He said that it would also enable them to access most of the services locally such as online registration of businesses.
He stated that President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi had pledged transformation in all sectors through bridging the information divide saying that it could only be achieved through working together as demonstrated by Managing Director of Botswana Books Project, Mr Ezekiel Malenya.
“We are a government that is going to bring transformation, we are talking digital divide, it is a challenge especially in Botswana and Africa at large,” he said.
He said his office had established a partnership with Mr Malenya whose aim was to assist the rural community.
The vice president further implored parents to encourage their children to use the study lamps for the intended purpose of studying.
Mr Malenya stated that Botswana Books Project was an organisation that worked with communities, saying their intention was to help the youth create job opportunities in their area. He urged members of community to work in conjunction with other organisations to develop their village.
He donated a computer for tribal office, internet modem for the youth, solar study lamps and four computers for the primary school. He also donated four solar panels that could be used to enable members of community to draw water from the borehole.
The solar lamps he said would enhance student performance, adding their plan was to establish a building in the form of a library for students, stating that some of the students could not do their assignments due to lack of power. ENDS
