Councillors praise sub-district staff
01 Sep 2019
Public officers in the Serowe sub-district have been applauded for their contribution in the development of the district.
Speaking at the Serowe Administrative Authority (SAA) council meeting in Serowe recently, councillors acknowledged public officers for their efforts and achievements since 2014.
They urged them to uphold the team spirit, saying they worked together and assisted members of the communities fairly and equally.
Most councillors made special mention of the Social and Community Development (S&CD) department, for being the champion in assisting the needy and destitute.
Councillors also recognised all stakeholders, fellow councillors and public officers that had contributed positively towards social development through economic empowerment projects.
They acknowledged government officials for their efforts in implementing projects and programmes such as the construction of destitute houses, maintenance of facilities, implementation of poverty eradication and Ipelegeng programmes.
They urged the business community to come up with other economic activities geared towards addressing challenges such as poverty, unemployment and dependency on government.
The councillors called upon all stakeholders to continue supporting the council in its endeavour to uplift people’s lives.
They also urged the leadership to be part of a team that would bring change in the sub-district, saying Dikgosi and land board should not stand as spectators.
However, some councillors expressed concern that issues they raised in the previous sittings had not been addressed.
Commenting on the sub-chairperson’s speech, specially elected councillor, Mr Gaotilwe Omphile, said the council should be seen to be treating issues with utmost urgency, adding that councillors were in-charge of villages and as such, they deserved updates on issues affecting their electorate.
Councillors said they were grateful for the five years they spent at the Central District Council, wishing those who would be contesting the general election luck.
They said political differences should not deter them from developing their district. ENDS
