The inaugural Mascom Batanani Charity walk will be held on September 14 in Francistown.

The walk, which is a Mascom Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, is aimed at raising fuds for charity.

Mascom Head of Customer Value Management, Mr Shimboy Kgosiemang told a press conference that the event would be held annually.

The walk will feature three categories of 5-kilometre, 10-kilometre and 15-kilometre at a registration fee of P50, P75 and P100 respectively.

Mr Kgosiemang explained that it was intended to raise funds for specific causes that Mascom would identify, adding that this year’s focus would be on gender based violence.

He said the walk was not just aimed at benefiting the recipients, but was also a social economic driver.

He said 100 per cent Batswana companies would be engaged to provide services ranging from tents and the walk would create temporary employment for young Batswana who would be ushers.

He said Batanani, which translates to ‘unity’ would be attended by among others, captains of industry, members of the business community as well as distinguished members of the community.

For her part, Mascom Chief Communications and PR Officer, Ms Tebogo Lebotse-Sebego said the company was well-recognised as an innovative and proudly Botswana corporate citizen.

“Our Corporate Social Investment Initiative targets groups and organisations that work towards positively contributing to ordinary people and the less privileged by changing their lives for the better,” she said.

Ms Lebotse-Sebego said their brand promise ‘Number 1 because of you’ embraced the concept and the company supports it by adopting an innovative approach to doing business.

She stated that Mascom CSR targets several groups and organisations, in an effort to positively contribute to and change the lives of ordinary people for the better.

These, she said, comprised the Mascom  Information Communications Technology (ICT) development that included donations of ICT equipment to primary schools and dikgotla, the Kitsong Centres, and the e-schools connectivity project, which has connected 652 schools around Botswana.

She explained that Mascom was also involved in an array of sports sponsorships in an effort to support Botswana sports and encourage exercise and healthy living amongst people, young and old.

“Today, in addition to the many sporting codes that we support, we are here to launch the first Mascom walk in Francistown, Mascom Batanani Walk,” she said. Ends
