Ipelegeng programme creates jobs - coordinator

28 Aug 2019

Serowe Administrative Authority (SAA), Ipelegeng coordinator, Mr Otisitswe Keatholetswe has reported that the Serowe Sub-District Council was to implement 108 projects in 14 villages.

Mr Keatholetswe was presenting a report on Ipelegeng projects before the on-going Serowe Sub-council session on August 27.

He told councillors that 84 were labour-intensive, litter picking and cleaning around the village, road sweeping along internal roads, grass cutting in all government and civic facilities construction.

Mr Keatholetswe stated that the planned programme budget for the financial year 2019/20 was about P28 million while expenditure stood at about P6 million.

He said for the first quarter, 6 003 females, 3 015 males and 4 227 youth were engaged in Ipelegeng while the Green Scorpion employed 339 females and 104 males.

Councillors were informed that most villages met their monthly quota, resulting in improved livelihoods.

The initiative, Mr Keatholetswe said, engaged 171 suppliers to provide snacks for Ipelegeng employees, 294 of those being females and 77 males.

Suppliers are engaged on a three-month contract.

He observed that if spent wisely, the funds generated through the three-month contract could add value to one’s life, adding that the beneficiaries were encouraged to invest in income-generating projects.

Mr Keatholetswe said the programme was under-resourced in terms of personnel.

He said funds were released late and there was also no communication link between the VDCs and farmers committees, adding that the non-existence of Village Extension Teams made it difficult to monitor and direct VDCs. Ends
