27 Aug 2019
The Minister of Transport and Communications Ms Dorcus Makgato commended Central Transport Organisation (CTO) employees from the Central region for showing compassion towards their colleague.
She said this at a ground breaking ceremony to commence construction of a house for CTO Tirelo Setshaba participant Ms Onkemetse Obusitswe at Machaneng recently. Ms Obusitswe experienced a setback in 2017 when her family’s house was gutted by fire.
CTO employees from the central region raised funds for the project.
Initially the employees donated cutlery, clothes, food and other goods to her.
However later on in 2018 a plan to construct a house for her came about.
Ms Makgato who is also Member Parliament for Sefhare-Ramokgonami commended the CTO employees for the good gesture, saying by resolving to undertake the project, they went over and above the expectations of their duties.
She said as human beings people should demonstrate love and care for others.
Ms Makgato commended departments under her ministry such as CITF from Chadibe, and private companies for joining hands to ensure that the CTO achieved their goal. Sebata Enterprises donated eight loads of gravel, Kopanang Company two loads of concrete stones and pit sand, while Madiba Brigade drew the sketch plan of the house.
She said their input demonstrated cooperation between organisations.
The Minister noted that the CTO house being built for a needy person was the third in the country by the organisation. She encouraged other departments to emulate them and assist fellow Batswana experiencing challenges.
Ms Makgato pledged roofing material, rafters and ceiling for the project. She called on CTO headquarters to also lend a hand in the project.
For his part the CTO General Manager Mr Lawrence Thebe commended colleagues for the effort.
He explained that the project was initiated by the Machaneng and Mahalapye CTO following Ms Obusitswe’s ordeal.
Mr Thebe revealed that last year, CTO employees from the Central Region which includes Mahalapye, Machaneng, Serowe, Selebi Phikwe, Francistown, Nata, Masunga and Machaneng came up with the idea to build a house for the TS participant.
The GM mentioned that the chief assisted by organising a plot to build the house for the beneficiary.
Meanwhile the CTO Central Region Manager Mr Mmusi Mmusi thanked the minister, general manager and other dignitaries for gracing the event.
He also thanked Ms Makgato for pledging the donations, saying though new to the ministry she demonstrated support.
He expressed gratitude towards the CTO Wellness Committee for initiating the project. Ends
