27 Aug 2019
The government recognises the critical role played by the church in the social and economic development of the country, says the assistant minister of Agricultural Development and Food Security, Mr Kostantinos Markus.
Mr Markus made the remarks during the official opening of the Old Apostolic Church facility at Boseja ward in Maun recently.
He appreciated Old Apostolic Church’s efforts where it partnered with government to extend a helping hand to the needy.
Mr Markus, who is also Member of Parliament for Maun East, revealed that the church provided shelter for needy persons, as it had so far built 37 houses, including two in Shorobe and Mabudutsa ward in Maun.
The church, he noted also assisted in contributing to the disaster relief fund and home based care, among others.
Mr Markus said the democratic principles the country espouses grant freedom of association to its people, and do not discriminate people for their belief or faith.
He said that was a blessing from God, which Batswana must be thankful for and called on pastors to continue praying against the drought, which the country was currently experiencing.
He also urged the congregation and other religious denominations to pray for the country as it readies for the general election as well as the peace and tranquility that currently prevails.
Church overseer, Mr Mokia Mokia said Christians had the responsibility to lead by example in order to attract more people to church.
He challenged the congregation to ensure the new facility serves as a new chapter of their lives.
Apostol Singata Dywili from South Africa called on the congregation to continue its recruitment drive to bring more souls to the house of the Lord and grow the church. Ends
