Botswana athletes in action this afternoon

All eyes will be on Botswana’s 110 metres hurdler, Kemorena Tisang and Tlhalosang Tshireletso of triple jump as they will be taking on their continental rivals today at the on-going 12th African Games in Rabat, Morocco. 

The two qualified for finals after impressive start in their respective disciplines.  

Tisang a promising hurdler qualified after finishing on position two with a time of 14.03 in round 1 heat 1.

Hopes are high on Tisang to book a slot in the medal podium given his recent performance at CAA Southern Region Senior Championships in Mauritius were he bagged two gold medal in the men's 110m and 400m hurdles.

While it will be Tshireletso’s international debut, expectations are high for him to hoist the country’s flags high.

Local 400 metres quartet will compete in the semi-finals following impressive performcance in the heats. Ditiro Nzamani qualified for the semi-finals after finishing on position one with a time of 46.42 in heat one, Leungo Scotch also won heat two with a time of  47.32,Isaac

Makwala finished on position five with a time of 47.48 and qualified as the fastest loser.

In the women category, Galefele Moroko won heat two with a time of 52.70.

Botswana will pin its hope on Tshepiso Masalela in the 800 metres men, after finishing on position two with 1.50.77.

Still this afternoon the 4x100 metres men’s relay will also be in action as they will be competing in round one.

Meanwhile Oratile Nowe and Boitumelo Masilo were eliminated in the 800 metres heat after finishing fifth and sixth in 2.08.78 and 1.50.89 respectively.

In the 100 metres semi-finals Botswana suffered a major blow after Tsaone Sebele who was a medal hopeful was eliminated after finishing on position 4 with a time of 11.85.

Keene Motukisi finished on position five with 10.71 while Karabo Mothibi finished sixth with 10.55 in the men’s category. Ends
