Minister Makgato thanks constituents for support

Minister of Transport and Communications Ms Dorcus Makgato who is also MP for Sefhare-Ramokgonami constituency has thanked constituents for support they have given her during her five-year tenure as their MP.
Addressing kgotla meetings at Moshopha, Letloreng and Machaneng recently, she thanked them for their cooperation which helped in realising some social and community development issues in the constituency which has 15 villages.
She indicated that in the past five years, government injected over P1 billion to finance development projects in the constituency, which included the maintenance and construction projects of classroom blocks, administration blocks, and toilet blocks in schools among others.
She said some houses accommodating civil servants were refurbished and some constructed while others were underway.
She said customary court offices, water reticulation projects were undertaken in some of the villages, though water distribution in some villages experienced challenges due water systems, pressure or situation of water tanks.
Ms Makgato said relevant authorities were working on rectifying the problem. She added that in some villages electricity connections were upgraded to three phase electricity.
Further, health posts were upgraded to clinics in some villages while Sefhare clinic was also upgraded to serve as a referral clinic.
Also, she mentioned that police posts in Sefhare and Ramokgonami were setup.
She noted that in Sefhare an agriculture service centre was also established, and further mentioned that an IDCC clinic block to serve the constituency has been setup in Chadibe. She stated that with the assistance of some private entities they managed to setup and construct a primary school in Letloreng settlement.
She said some projects such as upgrading and tarring of some roads in the constituency were on the card.
The MP further informed residents that government had received a P300 million grant from China for road construction projects in the country and some funds would be disbursed to their constituency.
She said while awaiting financial assistance from the grant, government would continue patching potholes on some tarred roads.
On other issues, Minister Makgato indicated that in the last Parliament meeting discussed bills and policies which included Trade Dispute Bill, Botswana Teachers Professional Bill, Industrial Development Bill, Company Registration Bill.
She said the amended land policy and the Climate Change Policy among others were adopted.
In response to questions from some residents regarding same sex marriages, she explained that there was no law in Botswana on the issue.
She explained that LEGABIBO only won a case to be allowed to register as a society and not that Botswana laws allow same sex marriages.
Residents commended and thanked the minister for advocating for developments that had taken place in the constituency over the five years. Ends
