Statistics Botswana holds sensitisation workshop

25 Aug 2019

Statistics Botswana recently held a sensitisation workshop with district authorities as part of its 2021 housing and population census activity roadmap.

Addressing district commissioners, council secretaries, city/town clerks on August 22, the Statistician General, Dr Burton Mguni said the workshop symbolised the beginning of a symbiotic relationship with the district authorities.

He noted that it was important to sensitise district authorities on the conduct of censuses as they had a big role to play.

According to Dr Mguni, the district commissioners have a fundamental role to play during the censuses as they oversee the census programme and its implementation at district level as well as being responsible for authorising district census procurement.

Dr Mguni said district officials should understand the conduct of the census in order to ensure that the 2021 census would be held without many problems, noting that the census was a massive exercise requiring the participation of all stakeholders.

He noted the cartographic exercise for the 2021 was already underway including instrument development, which would be used during the census count. ENDS
