Debswana MD epitome of accomplishment

Thousands of mourners, among them, the Vice President Mr Slumber Tsogwane, gathered in Gabane on August 24 to bid farewell to Debswana managing director, Mr Albert Milton.

Mr Milton, who died on August 16 in South Africa following a short illness, was described as a visionary leader and family man who contributed positively towards building the nation.

Mr Tsogwane said Mr Milton was a social engineer and development partner.

He said Mr Milton’s death was a loss not only to the family but the nation and Debswana.

Reading a message of condolence from President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi, Debswana board deputy chairperson and Permanent Secretary to the President, Mr Carter Morupisi, said Mr Milton was an epitome of accomplishment in service to Botswana.

The message further stated that his work ethics and strategic vision was well documented and would continue to inspire current and future generations.

The President described Mr Milton as an asset of undeniable value and integrity, a towering personality who was focused and committed to his work.

Mr Morupisi indicated that whilst at Morupule Coal Mine, the deceased led the expansion of Morupule Coal Mine from a one million to a 3.2 million tonnes per annum operation in order to meet the country’s energy demands of the nation.

One of Mr Milton’s notable achievements at Debswana was the safe and timely delivery of the multi-billion Pula Cut 8 Project, which is currently Jwaneng Mine’s main source of ore from 2018.

Mr Milton’s colleagues also described him as a leader who was committed to safety.

Debswana management representative, Mr Sedireng Serumola, appealed to his colleagues to carry on his legacy of commitment to safety.

Mr Serumola also noted that Mr Milton also had a unique way of coaching, encouraging and empowering his employees.

Acting Debswana managing director, Ms Lynette Armstrong, said her boss had a great strength in utilising resources around him.

Ms Armstrong also indicated that Mr Milton connected well with his staff.

She described Mr Milton as a man who believed in timely execution, order and expected action. His family will remember and cherish him for the love he shared with them.

His wife, Albertinah, described Mr Milton as a great husband and loving father to their children. His son, Thabo said his father was humble, caring and full of humor.

He said he admired his father’s love for his mother and family and children. A family representative described him as an obedient and caring man.

Mr James Ngondo said his nephew was humble and a hardworking person.

Maj. Gen. Pius Mokgware also described his brother in law as a humble man whom he said lived the values of Botswana.

Maj. Gen. Mokgware said Mr Milton was a true patriot, a community builder of note and therefore said it was upon those who remained to carry that legacy.

Mr Milton is survived by his mother, wife, four children and a son-in-law. ENDS
