Dream Team register first victory

Dream Team collected their first set of maximum points in the Botswana Basketball League this season on August 23, with a narrow 44-41 victory against equally struggling UB Relics.

The team went into the encounter on the back of five straight defeats and they could not have been a better redemption time than a date with bottom of the league placed, UB Relics who are yet to taste victory after five games.

Former national team under 16 sensational Gorata Tlhabiwa spearheaded the Dream Team’s victory as she opened the baskets with two quick jump shoots and a lay up to give  her side an early six points lead and there was no stopping Dream Team thereafter as they ran away with a 13-11 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Dream Team never looked back from the start of the second quarter as Kemmonye Nfila added four baskets while Nelly Seiko and Nametso Nkape chipped in with two baskets each in the second quarter  for solid support to Tlhabiwe’s first quarter heroics.UB Relics, nonetheless put up a brave fight in the third quarter wining it 11-7 with Martha Lolo being the chief orchestrator recording  six baskets; three rebounds and two assists in the third quarter and put Relics back in contention to at least salvage a win in the final quarter.

Relics third quarter fight back was however too little too late as Dream Team hanged on to win the fourth quarter 10-6 thus finishing off the game with a three point game victory at the final buzzer. 

In a post match interview, Dream Team captain, Tlhabiwa expressed delight over their first victory of the season saying “It has been a challenging season by far with back to back defeats and we are hoping to build on this momentum going into our next encounter.” 

She cautioned her team not to be carried away by the win but rather consider the victory as a motivational factor that could propel them to greater heights. Meanwhile, in a top of the table clash encounter played on Friday, log leaders Police V ladies kept their slate unblemished after fending off second place Dolphins ladies 58-52. 

Police came back from a 10 point at the end of the second quarter to lead 41-38 at the end of the third quarter and finally record  a close 58-52 victory at the final buzzer  to firm up its grip at the summit of the log standing.

Police are the only unbeaten team in the ladies division and stand a golden chance to easily sweep its way into the play offs. ends
