Athletes Katlego Kgwadi and Cingiwe Seru are the first-ever Batswana to qualify for the Reebok Crossfit competitions.
In an interview, Kgwadi said they were invited to Wisconsin, United States of America early this month where they competed.
He said the competition was one of the highest fitness events that determined the fittest man and woman worldwide.
Kgwadi said the sport, originating from America, had been in existence for the past 13 years.
He said this was the first year other countries from Africa were invited, adding that showed the sport was growing and founders were trying to reach the international community.
“There is a five-week long online competition called The Open, whereby different workouts are released weekly and participants are not told which workout will be released. The person who accumulates the highest points is invited to take part in the actual competition,” he said.
As such, he said one needed to be ready to be given any sport code to compete in, in at least 30-45 minutes before the competition started.
On the other hand, Seru added that the sport required high-intensity training that entailed different sporting codes and movements such as gymnastics, swimming, running, power-lifting and others.
She said for one to be able to be good at the sport and qualify, they had to be able to race against time.
The athletes said although they did not make it on the last open season, they were looking forward to the next season, which would open on October 10 this year. ENDS
