Public servants should be rewarded for quality work not only through remuneration but through other means, President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi has said.

Speaking to public servants in Mabutsane on August 20, he said other rewards could be flight tickets and hotel accommodation among others.

He expressed appreciation for the role played by public servants in driving the country’s economy.

Dr Masisi described leadership as a conduit between public servants and the populace, adding that it was important to deliberate on critical issues that have potential to take the country forward. 

He urged public officers to use their expertise to help political leaders achieve their goals.

"We do what we can for you so that you can do for the rest of society," he said.

He implored public officers to do more to turn the economy around.

Disposition towards work, he said, had the potential to turn around the fortunes of the country.

He said there was nothing wrong with leaving the public service as long as one planned to undertake activities that would benefit or build the economy.

Speaking on behalf of fellow public officers, Mr Joba Asekeng thanked the President for making time visit adding that it was a morale booster.

He said it was critical for public servants to be fully equipped with the tools of trade in order for performance to soar.

Mr Asekeng also said there was need to increase public servants accommodation to create room for optimum output.

Earlier in a meeting addressed by President Masisi, residents expressed gratitude to government  for consulting on issues of national interest.

Mr Abram Molatole, a resident of Mabutsane, said they had  confidence in Masisi’s administration that every development that was lagging behind in the would be a thing of the past.

Another resident, Mr Ketlhomilwe Moletsane also expressed optimism that the area would be developed. ENDS
