VP wants Xere residents to revive community trust

21 Aug 2019

The Vice President, Mr Slumber Tsogwane, has urged residents of Xere in his Boteti West constituency to boost their village’s economy by reviving a community trust.

Speaking at a recent kgotla meeting in Xere, Mr Tsogwane said the current leadership sought to empower Batswana and had softened laws to enable them to actively participate in all areas of the economy.

He informed them that lifting the hunting ban would address human/wildlife conflict but hunting would be done within set guidelines.

Hunting, he said, would scare animals from the tribal territory and communities would gain from animal skins and hides.

The Vice President said review of the National Development Plan 11 would be done to cater for critical projects such as Xere access road.

Mr Tsogwane donated 30 study lamps and books to Xere Primary School pupils to support and motivate them.

He also donated hats to male dikgosi, shawls to females and blankets to the community.

The Village Development Committee chairperson, Mr Timothy Tatolo, appreciated government assistance saying the village had a leather tanning project that was doing well.

He appealed to the technical committee to develop a cultural village project that had been funded to the tune of P400 000.

He stated that 41 houses had been built for villagers through various programmes. ENDS
