Residents demand update

20 Jan 2013

Somerset East residents say they need to be updated about the Tonota/Francistown road project in order to make necessary preparations.

Speaking at a kgotla meeting addressed by Francistown South MP, Mr Wynter Mmolotsi over the weekend, Mr Titose Ndubo, one of the residents who is  likely to be relocated to pave way for the road construction, said they were not apprised on the progress.

He said they were only informed that they would be affected by the development, but the information was not enough as they did not know how and when the project would affect them. Mr Ndubo expressed concern that they were still in the dark, yet the construction company was already on site.

The Ward Development Committee (WDC) chairperson, Mr Molaodi Maiketso applauded the MP for his continuous consultation with his constituents. Mr Maiketso complained about the delay in completion of the Botswelelo clinic renovation and thanked the government for the provision of antiretroviral drugs.

Earlier on, the Area MP, Mr Mmolotsi said the 2012 JC results were disappointing. He said last year, there were 63 merits, but this year there were only five, adding that the situation called on the Ministry of Education and Skills Development and other stakeholders to find ways to better the results.

Mr Mmolotsi said shortage of text books contributed to poor JCE results because students did not complete the syllabus.

He also briefed the residents about issues that were discussed in the last Parliament session and assured the residents that he would take up the issue of the Tonota/Francistown road with the relevant authorities. MP Mmolotsi concurred that those who will be affected by the project should be kept updated on their fate.

Councillor for the area, Mr Meshack Matseka implored residents to clear the service levy arrears, explaining that the city council was owed P14.5 million. Mr Matseka raised a concern about  Mahube Primary School 2012 PSLE performance. He said the school scored 68.9 per cent becoming position 17 out of the 18 schools in the city. ENDS
