First National Bank Botswana (FNBB) foundation has donated school bags and stationery to 79 students of Lentswe-le-Moriti Primary School.
The foundation donated bags with solar panel and light for studying to standard seven pupils on August 19.
When fully charged, the lamps reportedly can light up for a continuous eight hours. The set will come handy for students in areas like Lentswe-le-Moriti where there is no electricity.
Pupils from reception class to standard one received stationery including pencils, crayons and rulers.
Speaking at the donation ceremony, FNBB Selibe Phikwe Branch manager Ms Lala Moseki said that teaching was not an easy task, adding that teachers needed to be passionate and loving in order to deliver exceptional results.
Ms Moseki said FNBB puts aside some percentage of their profit for their corporate social investment.
The foundation has bought vehicles for some community organization as part of their commitment of partnering with communities.
The branch manager said that prior to donation of bags, FNBB Foundation purchased school shoes for students in an effort to support education endeavors.
When responding to the pleas by the school head Ms Florah Sebudubudu, Ms Moseki promised to consider adopting Lentswe-le-Moriti Primary School in future.
For her part the school head Ms Moseki said that her school was an excellent performer in the Bobirwa Sub-district.
She revealed that for the past five years her school had been at the top of 31 primary schools performance charts.
However, the school dropped last year after a student out of the five performed poorly, dropping the school performance to 80 per cent pass rate.
The school head said the school performed well despite lack of resources.
The school is said to be amongst those piloting breakthrough English after research found that pupils struggled with English as language. ENDS
