Government values consultation- VP

The Vice President Mr Slumber Tsogwane assured residents of Moreomaoto that the current administration values consultation with its communities, hence they were able to addresses their concerns.

Addressing  a Kgotla meeting at Moreomaoto on August 16, the Vice President said following the public’s outcry about human/wildlife conflict government revisited the hunting ban of 2004 and through consultation, they lifted the hunting ban.

He said the guidelines for controlled hunting, which will be introduced, were presented before Parliament and will consequently be shared with the public.

Mr Tsogwane said the guidelines indicated areas where controlled hunting would take place as well as the wildlife species to be affected.

On other matters, Mr Tsogwane informed the residents of that their community Trust had received a donation of two tractors from China.

The two tractors, he said would assist residents of Boteti West and Boteti East during the ploughing season. Mr Tsogwane further updated the residents about bills that were discussed at the last parliament meeting.

He said the land policy had been amended to ensure spouses were eligible to two plots as compared to only one plot previously.

Mr Tsogwane also informed the residents that the President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi was forging relations with other countries to open links for investments.

He said relations would make it easier for other countries to invest in the country while Botswana would also manage to export her goods and services.

The Vice President noted that President Masisi strived to move the country’s economy from being resource based to a knowledge based economy.

He therefore said the president had made efforts by signing a memorandum of understanding with one university in the United States of America to assist in realising a knowledge based economy.

He informed the residents that the government had managed to address most of their challenges such as clinic, roads and electricity which he said were achieved through cooperation with the residents.

The Vice President earlier thanked the residents for their support during his tenure.

Mr Tsogwane donated solar lights and books to pupils which he said would assist pupils in their education.

In his welcome remarks, Kgosi Michael Masheto of Moreomaoto decried effects of droughts which he said led to heightened human-wildlife conflicts.

Kgosi Masheto also thanked government for heeding their calls to re-align the buffalo fence. ENDS
