Letlhakane reticulation project starts
12 Aug 2019
The P3.4 million Letlhakane water reticulation project financed through constituency fund is expected to address water shortage in the village.
Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) general manager in Letlhakane, Mr Monametsi Ramosu, said during a recent ground breaking ceremony that the project was expected to take three months.
Mr Ramosu said the project would start with a four-kilometre pipeline from Phase One Extension and would connect to a 2.5-kilometre pipeline at Phase Two Extension, then link with a seven-kilometre pipeline at Tawana ward, followed by a 1.5 kilometre pipeline at Maphanephane Ward and a 1.5 pipeline at Letsibogo ward.
He said WUC would also undertake a 2.5 kilometre pipeline at Mmatshumo and 3.4 kilometre pipeline at Mokubilo.
Mr Ramosu said contractors had been engaged to undertake the project and the intention was to review the project every two weeks to mitigate any issues that might delay its progress.
Furthermore, Mr Ramosu said 60 per cent of material worth P900 000 had already been procured.
He said WUC was committed to carrying out the project according to schedule.
Deputy district commissioner, Mr Ewetse Selelo, implored the contrators and WUC to deliver the project within the set time frame with no cost overruns.
Mr Selelo urged the contractors to prove that they could be trusted to carry out projects of such magnitude, noting that they should do a sterling job.
One of the contractors, Mr Geoffery Bogopa, appreciated that the community had been considered when awarding projects, adding that they would commit to deliver the project on time and within budget.
Boteti Sub-district Council chairperson, Mr Molemi Galeragwe, said they had committed to ensure that water supply in the village was restored.
Councillor Goabaone Bolesitswe of Mmatshumo complained that the project duration was too long, urging the corporation to review it.
He emphasised that community empowerment should be implemented as proposed.
Councillor Bolesitswe called for supervision and close monitoring to avoid issues of time delay.
“The people of Boteti have suffered acute shortage of water over long period of time,” he said. Ends
