Senior women national football team assistant coach, Alex Malete says they have learnt a lot from their colleagues in Slovakia.
The Slovakia women’s national team technical bench met with Botswana coaches to share notes as well as conduct a training session for the senior women national football team, which is currently in a training camp in Slovakia. According to Malete, they were told that the Slovakia women national team, comprised of over many players who were playing in Germany, Italy and Czech Republic.
The team, he said meet for a maximum of nine days before any international game.
He pointed out that the main part of the training session was done in different areas and departments.
He said because department had their different sessions, the team would train as a group only in the last part of the training session.
Malete said training the team according to departments made it easier for coaches to correct mistakes adding that working on specific details of training yields better results.
“They also have a tool, which measures the level of training,” he said. Also, Malete said the players were required to fill in an online questionnaire to state the time they went to bed, the level of fatique and if they had sustained injuries.
The questionnaire, he said gives coaches an idea on the level of intensity to use during training, which would enable the technical team to ensure that players were always fit for the next activity.
Furthermore, he said the Slovakia’s technical team uses a Rate of Perceived Exertion (RPE), which determines how players feel in relation to the intensity of training.
He said they also pay attention to regeneration adding after training, measures of recovery, such as cold water immersion were put in place depending on the activity of the day. ENDS
