Limited positions hinder promotions - assistant minister
08 Aug 2019
The Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso, says her ministry promoted eight tribal secretaries to the position of deputy court president and two to the position of tribal administrator in 2018 out of a total of 17 tribal secretaries.
She told Parliament on August 7 that progression was slow in the Department of Tribal Administration, due to limited positions.
Ms Tshireletso said there were higher posts of tribal administrator and court president to which tribal secretaries could be upgraded.
She said transfers were made as and when there was need, saying seven of the tribal secretaries were transferred to new duty stations in 2018.
She noted that the officers were allowed to apply for departmental transfers.
The assistant minister was answering a question by MP for Nata-Gweta, Mr Polson Majaga, who had asked the minister to state what government was doing to upgrade tribal secretaries given that they were left to work in one station for many years in most cases especially at kgotlas without being promoted or transferred to other stations or departments.
